Gus Wendel is the Associate Director of the UCLA Urban Humanities Initiative, an interdisciplinary teaching and research program housed within cityLAB. Gus is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in urban planning at UCLA, where his research examines urban planning’s role in the formation of sexual space in Los Angeles and the ways in which planning upholds gender, race, and class hierarchies within sexual minority communities. Gus is a founding member of the Urban Humanities Network and the (Un)Common Public Space Group. Prior to UCLA, Gus worked for the Oregon Secretary of State and advocated for LGBTQ rights in the state of Oregon.
